This indicates the efficiency of power usage. For industrial loads, PF is typically 0.8; for residential loads, it may exceed 0.9.
3. Voltage Rating and Phase Type
Determine the required input/output voltages (e.g., 10kV/400V) and whether the system is single-phase or three-phase. These impact the transformer’s structure and type.
How to Choose Transformer Size
Use the following formula:
Transformer Size (kVA) = Total Load (kW) ÷ Power Factor (PF)
Example: For a total load of 120kW and a PF of 0.8:
120 ÷ 0.8 = 150kVA
Redundancy Recommendation
It is advised to add 10–20% to the calculated size to handle start-up surges and future expansion.
